I dont like my neighbour. They spread lies about me when they didnt like an extension I built on my house. I do not wish them well.
However, I would not go and stand outside their funeral and heckle their family, shouting about what a dishonest nasty piece of work their relation was, even though i am entitled to. It would be in bad taste and show a complete lack of decency and respect for those grieving (even if I had no respect for the person who died).
Freedom of speech is a right we all have but abusing it or ill considered application of it will cause harm
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for that really interesting story and normal post. It really puts it all into perspective.

Of course doing that to your neighbour would be stupid, but your neighbour isn't the King. People who feel like this should quit the royal family then. Being a royal isn't just the good stuff alone, the perks come with a cost.
Anyone living a public life gives up some of their rights to privacy. You can't pick and choose when to be private and when to be public.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a grievance with my neighbour as some people do with the monarchy...and there is an appropriate ands respectful time to air that grievance and while mourning is not the right time.
As for your "take the rough with the smooth" public life argument...no one should expect to be be heckled at this moment in their life, and it is a sad reality that this has happened, but people should not condone such disrespectful behaviour on the basis of freedom of speech or being a public figure.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
True, what's IHT 40%? That's £300 million anyone else would have to pay.
But hey, he fell out of a magical muff apparently, which makes him better thatn you, and deserving of a lofty position that has its own rules and laws.
So zip it you filthy commoner!

Out of the money not paid to HMG some goes for maintenance of Crown Estate, anyway it's all available on the Web. You can't have a monarchy on peanuts.
Finally, we live in a democracy and the majority want it. So why should it disappear to suit the minority.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we obviously DON’T live in a democracy. If we did we’d have the right to elect our own head of state, and not be forced to pay for one nobody voted for.

'Hurling abuse'
As far as I can tell, no one 'hurled abuse' - the guy said 'Andrew, you're a sick man' - that's all.
Granted it was while he's following the coffin so it's distasteful (I suppose, even considering what Andrew did) but it shouldn't be an offence or even worthy of being 'moved on' by the police.
People that want protests stifled always say 'it's not the right time/place' but what they really want is for you to protest out of sight so you can be more easily ignored.
People criticised me for comparing this country, during the past few days, to North Korea but I stand by it. The attempt to present the country as 100% united in mourning and the stifling of anything remotely resembling dissent is eerily similar.
If support for the monarchy is so universal they wouldn't need to harass/arrest people holding pieces of paper (in some cases blank paper!) into silence would they?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Monarchy has nothing to do with it. It's the current tory party who actually introduced it to stop people protesting at them.
And who says the majority want it when we’re not even allowed to have the f*cking debate?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was answered yesterday. Support for the monarchy gas been declining for nearly half a century and the decline is picking up pace. Only 10 years ago it was 75% now it's 60%.
Going by your logic, the moment it goes below 50% then the monarchy should be immediately wound up?

As soon as the support for pro-abolition goes over and above 50%, yes. We are a hell of a long way from that though.

No mate, it's absolutely not the same. You're being petty because somebody said something about you that you don't like whereas the monarchy is a matter of national interest.

Very few would if they thought about it. I would like to be rich, but would hate to be a royal. Would you, seriously?
To be honest I don't think it's something I could do. It's easy to look at the perks like the wealth but the negatives would drive me mad.
Constantly having to act a certain way in public, not being able to do simple things like popping to the pub, spending multiple hours a day having to feign interest in everyone you meet, your every action and move being under the microscope etc. It's far worse than being famous due to being say an actor or footballer.
Personally don't envy them at all.
So who decides when the support has gone below 50%. Are the US gonna do a referendum?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do people like you use phrases like "will". You have no idea what will happen, for the first time in 70 years we have a new King, and then there will be another afterwards who is incredibly popular in this country.
It's been trending down for a number of reasons (Andrew, Harry and Meghan) but that doesn't mean it'll continue to do so.
It may well do, but pretending it's a certainty makes you look foolish.
There's a very clear distinction to be made here. As with all affirmative action, I believe 50%+1 of the vote is needed to support that action for it to be taken.

So Charles doesn’t have to pay inheritance tax on his mothers estimated £750Million fortune.
One rule for one….

Yeah but tourism £ means the charade has to apparently keep going

Because tourism would stop? like it did in France….oh wait.

This is the question nobody can answer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as the support for pro-abolition goes over and above 50%, yes. We are a hell of a long way from that though.

====
No mate, it's absolutely not the same. You're being petty because somebody said something about you that you don't like whereas the monarchy is a matter of national interest.
Just because both can be called grievances doesn't mean they are the same thing.
