Citing a YouGov poll

Consider the following when citing the British public's beliefs:

1) We are not taught anything that might be deemed negative towards the recent British empire or monarchy at school.

2) The press are granted access to the royals in exchange for positive coverage (even Royal Propaganda TV AKA ITV documentaries have admitted this to be the case).

3) Apart from a few articles here and there in the likes of The Guardian, or when something is undeniably in the public eye e.g. the sweaty nonce, the press are massively pro-Royal.

Ask people you know, I bet most of them are unaware of (just off the top of my head) Charles being given millions by foreign dignitaries recently. Or, if they were aware, they've now forgotten i.e. the Harry and Meghan 'they expressed concern about the colour of our child'.

You can't really trust a poll when the propaganda machine is working this hard to condition everyone to love them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's nothing in mainstream media about their business dealings as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly.

Millions held offshore (Panama papers reveal anyone? - nope, forgotten by most already)

Investments in the arms trade.

Barely ever mentioned in the press.

To be honest I don't think it's something I could do. It's easy to look at the perks like the wealth but the negatives would drive me mad.

Constantly having to act a certain way in public, not being able to do simple things like popping to the pub, spending multiple hours a day having to feign interest in everyone you meet, your every action and move being under the microscope etc. It's far worse than being famous due to being say an actor or footballer.

Personally don't envy them at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They cannot even really spend the money they have. If Wills drove round in a Lambo, covered himself in tattoos and dripping in bling then he'd be hounded for it....its standard behaviour for your average millionaire sports personality, they have all the perks and can largely do WTF they like.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
So how did Andrew pull it off?

You are deceived by media. Any royal that wants to can live a life of crazy parties and awesome trips and adventures. The Royal media service would obviously never allow the media to report on those events and so the public would think my life is boring and repetitive.

Just ask Prince Andrew.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd argue Prince Andrew is a perfect example of just how you can't get away with it in today's world anymore given anyone with access to the internet knows what he's alleged to have done.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Technically he has already gotten away with it. Didn't the monarchy pay off his accusers?

Also, he was like that for years and it was never really reported on that much.

It took the Epstein affair and for actual victims to come out decades later for it to blow up. Victims who had stayed silent for years for fear of what would happen to them if they talked or were simply ignored or silenced when they spoke up.

The media gives us the impression that we would know if something was happening, but just because Andrew blew up doesn't mean that's all they have to hide. In fact, the public knows very little about what's actually behind the scenes, but the little we know makes us feel like we know a lot, because we don't even know how much there is to know.

The press will not dare if they know what's good for them. The portrayal of royals as some sort of prisoners that can't do anything is a lie.

How many of the people raging on here about not paying tax will use Uber, buy something off Amazon or continue with their Virgin Broadband when they’ve finished bleating?

posted on 13/9/22

And all this about the press being pro royal. They are pro press, they know their public so are careful how they go. Of the main stream only the Guardian is critical of them, which is in line with their readers. But their is Private Eye, the foreign press. Virtually nothing is secret.
How about the life of Princess Margaret?
I would hate it. But being rich I would love, a euro lottery winner would suit me.

I dont like my neighbour. They spread lies about me when they didnt like an extension I built on my house. I do not wish them well.

However, I would not go and stand outside their funeral and heckle their family, shouting about what a dishonest nasty piece of work their relation was, even though i am entitled to. It would be in bad taste and show a complete lack of decency and respect for those grieving (even if I had no respect for the person who died).

Freedom of speech is a right we all have but abusing it or ill considered application of it will cause harm

Thanks for that really interesting story and normal post. It really puts it all into perspective.

This is why Meghan and Harry to here their toys out the pram. Something like that simply doesn't happen without a stamp of approval from senior elements of the royal family. There were no attempts to control the media as would have been usual. There were no corrections or statements condemning the behaviour of the media. The royal family did not deploy it's PR machinery to help them out. You can't go after a royal like that unless allowed to and they hinted at this in their interviews.

You've literally offered nothing to debate. Just name-calling and acting superior while saying zilch.

If you don't think the propaganda machine that is currently in overdrive in the UK, plus the arresting of peaceful protestors, isn't comparable to NK then you must be blind.

Also, Sadiq Khan is mayor despite the will of imperial institutions like the monarchy. If they had their way he wouldn't be anywhere close

Yeah that's my point though, he got away with it because it happened 20+ years ago, but I can't see that happening if it was attempted now. Someone would spill it I think.

Likewise I have no doubt they have a ton of historical secrets, but would struggle if they attempted to hide those same things today.
