I can just imagine in 40 yrs time Gerrard’s grandkids asking him he was a good footballer, then saying “why didn’t you win anything then?”
Let's have a look at the evidence though, to be fair, across the skills needed to be in midfield for a top team.
Defence - Gerrard wins this hands down. See his defence of Suarez's racism.
Attack - Again it's Gerrard. Not so much Hang the DJ but attack the DJ.
Scoring - No surprises here but Gerrard again. Especially away from home. Allegedly with a 16yo.
Heading - https://twitter.com/SkyFootball/status/1211297629981806592?s=20
Pretty conclusive I'd say!
Lampard was better as we all know .

Why is he a Paedo? I never called him that!
For 98% of football fans, when you see the name Gerrard you immediately think of the slip. A moment that summed up his career of losing 9-0 to Paul Scholes on premier league title battles.
Like Scholes said, they’re different. Gerrard was the epitome of a British midfielder, fast, furious, leader, great shot, good passer, box to box.
Scholes was very different, technically superior, controlled the game, was often the pass before the assist. He enabled the likes of Beckham, Giggs, Ronaldo whereas Gerrard, as Scholes said was the match winner:
The funny thing I find about this silly debate is if they really wanted to have a debate about a United midfielder being better than a Liverpool one in that era then they would have had a much better chance if they had actually chosen their best one, ie. Roy Keane. But they still haven't forgiven him for pointing out some home truths before being jettisoned. He's got worse after retirement whilst Scholes has gone from strength to strength.

Whilst true, Gerrard could have done that role that Scholes did when his legs went(people forget Scholes was an attacking player for years but is somehow remembered as the guy who controlled games) and in fact did in his later years. Scholes himself said he doesn't see why Gerrard couldn't have did the role Scholes did but he couldn't have did what Gerrard did.
In fact Gerrard was again voted into team of the season at 34 or something playing that role of sitting deep 'controlling the game'.
I suppose Gerrard fits into that small group with Le Tissier of good footballers staying in their comfort zone and not being prepared to challenge themselves at more successful clubs

______
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The argument was already won when they played, before Scholes got elevated to greatest player in history, several years after retiring, having got better in retirement.
Team of the year record eight times. Scholes twice.
World XI three times. Scholes never.
Third in Balon D'or. No idea if Scholes was ever even nominated.
UEFA Player of the Year. Scholes never.
UEFA Team of the Year three times, Scholes never.
Record Player of the Month awards.
UEFA Team of the Tournament EURO 2012.
Twice England player of the Year.
Scholes passed the ball around really well, in top teams and got more medals, playing in better teams but individually Gerrard was miles better.
