It's always been laughable how United fans jealously elevate some of their players just so they can have a legend like Gerrard. Embarrassing for them but also laughable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cantona is the real classic.

Man scored about 14 goals once and they pronounce him a King ffs

'Oh yeah, I mean he came in and gave the whole club a lift.'

If we ordered Bergkamp from Wish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

A few months back an article on here came down to top 10 pre era midfielders and one of them already had Casemiro in at number 8, that's what we're dealing with here. Wonder where Casemiro will rank in 5 years time as United player are like wine, get better with age.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s like when Naby Keita was signed, before he even arrived you lot were proclaiming he was a combination of Zidane/Kante/Pirlo/Iniesta
Turns out he was just shiiiite and a total waste of money 🤷‍♂️
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah so that's not true is it. Literally no-one ever said that. Bit weird tbh.

What is true is that Utd have had more women beaters on the books than thry've won European Cups.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just like Zidane didn't say those things about Scholes they claim. Some guy literally made all these quotes up and posted them, then they got shared around the internet and not one person decided to investigate these baseless quotes with no source, despite the ridiculousness of them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really? That's the only point they've got and it's fake? When it rains it pours.

Daft argument, as usual. I think Scholes was better, mug OP thinks Gerrard's better. It's not like anyone can ever win these arguments
______

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The argument was already won when they played, before Scholes got elevated to greatest player in history, several years after retiring, having got better in retirement.

Team of the year record eight times. Scholes twice.
World XI three times. Scholes never.
Third in Balon D'or. No idea if Scholes was ever even nominated.
UEFA Player of the Year. Scholes never.
UEFA Team of the Year three times, Scholes never.
Record Player of the Month awards.
UEFA Team of the Tournament EURO 2012.
Twice England player of the Year.
Scholes passed the ball around really well, in top teams and got more medals, playing in better teams but individually Gerrard was miles better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can tell how Scholes gets better with age seeing as he received little recognition when he was actually playing. How does the best midfielder never make the world 11 or get a Ballon d'or nomination at his peak?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's because he was quiet apparently. They'll say anything.

From an unbiased fan, I'd rather have Gerrard in my team.
IMHO Utd would have won just as much with him in their team, if not more.
I used to love watching the young Scholes play. Full of tricks, liked a goal and loved a tackle but Gerrard was awesome.

Hey Zidane, what's it feel like to be the best midfielder in the world? Ask Scholes.

As much truth in these quotes as the Chuck Norris ones.

Like Scholes said, they’re different. Gerrard was the epitome of a British midfielder, fast, furious, leader, great shot, good passer, box to box.

Scholes was very different, technically superior, controlled the game, was often the pass before the assist. He enabled the likes of Beckham, Giggs, Ronaldo whereas Gerrard, as Scholes said was the match winner:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, Gerrard was the match winner by being technically superior, controlling the game, was often the pass before the assist, it just smashed it in from 35 yards.

Gerrard was better than Scholes at everything but what really wins it for Gerrard is his superior mentality. Everyone knows Scholes is a serial quitter that sucks his daughters toes.

For me Scholes was a much better player before his legs went and he got moved back. Was great getting into the box and a threat just outside it also. However for some reason when people talk about Scholes it's the later version that got moved back that is remembered as they talk about controlling the game and other such nonsense for describing players whose job is to keep possession and pass the ball around in less congested areas. Yes he was a top player and reinvented himself when his legs went but that was when he was worse, not better, which is the reason he got much back there in the first place, as much of the attacking part of his game had gone, due to the pace he had when he came through deserting him.

I suppose Gerrard fits into that small group with Le Tissier of good footballers staying in their comfort zone and not being prepared to challenge themselves at more successful clubs
A big fish in a small pond if you will
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, that's Ferguson staying at United all those years and not testing himself anywhere else.

This is why Fergie isn't a true great like Pep, Ancelotti and Mourinho who have proven themselves several times over across the top leagues of Europe. Ancelotti now going to try internationally football with Brazil even.

Fergie would have relegated Real Madrid given the chance, as Howard Webb would not have been there to save his ass every other match day.

There's no end to this awful week for United fans. Beaten in injury time, public spat between player and manager, another woman beater, inviting and commemorating a convicted paedo and now from the horses mouth it has been confirmed to United fans(no other fan thinks it's even a debate) that Gerrard was by far the better player and could have done what Scholes did, ie. pass the ball around in acres of space, ffs even Carrick was able to do that, whilst Scholes couldn't do what Gerrard did(everything!).

These guys need a break, it's been a tough week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We should get some t-shirts for all of the above them. We'd make a killing and wipe out the debt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can do that once you're done covering for the wife beaters at your club and getting them private doctors.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's actually shocking what's happening at the moment if these allegations are true. I don't want wife-beaters at the club and have stated that several times on here. As have the majority of posters.

I'd hope you'd feel the same should you ever have a player on the Liverpool books who does the same or commits offences which the majority of people would find abhorrent (such as racism etc).

Which people? Or do you mean person? The same person who has made stuff up throughout the entire thread?

Gerrard: Complete midfielder, no weaknesses, leader, match winner, captain fantastic who was quiet on the pitch but lead by example - inspiring.

Scholes: Quiet, poor in the tackle, stayed in one area of the pitch as didn't have the legs, 'controlled games'.

How about some real quotes?

Patrick Vieira
“In my opinion he’s in the top three midfielders in the world, maybe the best right now. I heard what Alex Ferguson said about him being better than me. He’s probably right. Gerrard is England’s best player and he single-handedly got Liverpool into the Champions League.

Sir Alex Ferguson
“If you were looking for the player you would replace Keane with, it would be Gerrard, without question. He has become the most influential player in England, bar none. More than Vieira. Not that Vieira lacks anything, but I think that Gerrard does more for his team than Vieira does, and has way more to his game.

“I’ve watched him quite a lot. To me, Gerrard is Keane. Everywhere the ball is, he seems to be there. He’s got that unbelievable engine, desire, determination. Anyone would love to have Gerrard in their team.”

Zinedine Zidane
“There was a point when Gerrard was the best midfield player in the world. It is unusual to get complete midfield players who can do everything, but that is what he was.”

Paolo Maldini
“What I have always liked of Steven is that on the pitch he was very quiet, but was capable of inspiring all his team-mates with great strength, not so much with words. The real example – and that is what I’ve learned from players like Steven and Franco Baresi – is to do rather than talk.

Pele
“To me he is one of the super best midfielders in the world. He is an excellent player.”

Fernando Torres
“I’m spoilt having a team-mate like Gerrard as I can count on him supplying me with perfect passes. You make the run into the space and however tightly marked he is, he finds a way to get the ball through in perfect condition.

“The highest compliment I can pay him is that he’s as creative as a Xavi at Barcelona, with something extra as well. When you add his energy, toughness, leadership and goalscoring ability and the result is a fantastic all-round player. He is without doubt the greatest player I have ever played with, he has everything.”

Thierry Henry
“It was a disgrace he didn’t win European Footballer of the Year after Istanbul in 2005 and, for me, he will be regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time.”

Although to be fair, Henry's quote on Scholes is one of the few real ones.

Wayne Rooney
“I’d have to say Stevie [was the best England team-mate]. For me he’s an incredible player, an incredible leader. He helped me a lot during my early days with England.”

Henry said Scholes 1 and Gerrard 2 and Carragher looked stunned in that studio.

Arsenal were out biggest rival by far back then and they hate us too and Henry still picked Scholes as the best.

Scousers wonder why we managed to win as much as we did. Scholes was central to most of it. Never seen a player control and run a game like him in this league until KDB arrived on the scene.
