Scholes probably couldn't have managed to get sent off within 30 seconds of coming on the pitch,

Of course, Howard Webb would have never allowed it.

Scholes would never do the "bionic huddle" and slip.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When this is all you've got in the 'debate' about who was a better player then you know deep down what the answer is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Scholes was a better player than Gerrard. Gerrard was a better athlete. Sort of like Messi and Ronaldo

He can't hear you through his 11 PL winners medals.

It's remarkable how a video of an ex-United player praising an ex-Liverpool player has caused such consternation amongst our Liverpool supporting friends.

Gerrard would have been handy for cup games, he always seemed to raise his game for those one-offs, fair play to him. We'll never know if he had it in him to help drive his team to relentless title after title like Scholes did, one of the great what-ifs, I guess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would Scholes had driven Liverpool to a CL win? We'll never know!!!

To be fair Dudek did more to win the CL than he did

It's just a harmless video of an ex-pro talking about football. No need for all this Liverpudlian anger and simmering resentment.

They do seem to be taking this quite seriously

There’s been a number of better Liverpool players in the PL than Gerrard.

He’s so good Benitez had to shoe horn him into team at RW or number 10 because he was a liability in midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Care to name them? Considering he's the best Liverpool player of all time, it will be some going.

Ah the good old rewriting of history. Gerrard was outstanding in his box to box role in midfield, in a 4-4-2. By the time Benitez joined Liverpool we were seeing a shift in the PL to 4-2-3-1 with the continental managers like Mourinho coming in, whereby the three midfielders stuck to their individual jobs, meaning 4-4-2 was being outnumbered in the middle, which lead to Keane stating Gerrard was the last of his kind, ie. a complete midfielder in a two man midfield.

When Liverpool were lacking goals, Benitez, knowing Gerrard could play anywhere, moved Gerrard to the right, he scored loads of goals(23 in fact) from there, getting into team of the season again. He then moved him behind the striker to even more devastating effect, to be central of the three behind the striker. No matter where he played, he was outstanding, owing to being a complete player, who could do everything.

Benitez
"He's a central midfielder, and I promise you I'd like to play him in the middle, but I cannot now. You need to find balance and it's better for the team to play him where he is.

Again from the horses mouth. A lot of making stuff up on this thread from angry United fans
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Salah, Suarez and Van Dijk were better at their peaks than Gerrard.

Gerrard beats Suarez and VVD on longevity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mascherano and Alonso were also better CM's than Gerrard. Perhaps even Didi Hamann, if you compare his and Gerrard's 2005 CL final performances.

We already know as Scholes has admitted he couldn't in the video in the OP.

Scholes is a known quitter. I'm sure even United fans know he couldn't have pulled off Istanbul but they can't bring themselves to state some facts outright and they are left with "ifs" and "buts".

No. They were better in their specific roles, the former breaking up play and the latter keeping possession and moving the ball on. That’s it. Although this is about Gerrard v Scholes, nothing on that? Although I’m sure it will be hilarious reading considering your offering above.

They're definitely not better midfielders than Gerrard. Mascherano is a better DM perhaps, but not a better midfielder than Stevie

No midfielder has ever existed more complete than Gerrard. I'd like to see Mascherano play on the right or behind the striker, or Scholes play at Right back etc etc and still churn out world class performance after world class performance, even performing better than players who actually ply that role their whole careers.

If that was Scholes he'd have quit.

Anyone who has ever given or conducted TV interviews knows that the way Scholes is handling that water bottle without drinking from it is basically code for "Yeah, you shouldn't take any of this seriously."

posted on 8/9/23

Gerrard was not only the best midfielder but also the best no 10, best Right back etc as he outclassed the best players in those positions like Gar Neville when he was merely covering.

I mean, Gerrard is a better Right Back than Gary Neville, only that playing him at right back would have been a waste.

This seems like a pretty big helping of 'if' with a side of 'buts'
