Gary Lineker chit on a pitch live on TV at a World Cup - now the highest paid presenter at the BBC.
Paula Radcliffe chit live on TV at the London Marathon - now has an MBE.

I can only see positives for Sir Neil Lennon 🤣

So it looks like the Bernardo signing might finally be concluded today. Fine, but where's the badly needed signings to actually strengthen our unbalanced squad? Not much in today's Beeb footie gossip ...

"Celtic are on the verge of making an offer for 21-year-old Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, who has been strongly linked with Rangers. (Mosaique FM - in French)"

"Adam Idah is close to completing a return to Celtic and a deal could be done in time for Sunday’s Premiership opener against Kilmarnock. (Scottish Sun)"

LB? CB? DM? Winger?

Aye, I suppose we've only been waiting for a Greg Taylor upgrade since about 2020. No rush really.

This would be a huge concern were it not for the fact that since 2020 we've won nearly every domestic trophy going.

And before anyone starts, desire to be doing something meaningful in Europe is no longer a realistic goal unless we get 3-4 quality signings that all make the difference at the same time and we get a kind draw.

I’m not expecting us to do anything in Europe, as I’ve said countless times on here. I DO expect us to look a far better footballing side domestically than last season’s sh1tshow, when we basically got away with it big time. That starts with a solid defence, which is hard when our only LB has no discernible attributes at either end of the park.

I want a left back too. And many other positions to be fair. The fact remains however that we put a more than good enough team on the park to ensure we dominate our domestic scene. Having “pretty” football to watch is not a given I’m afraid.

I still believe we will make decent signings before the window shuts.

So, CL 24/25, four groups of nine, eight group games, teams from same country kept apart though as there are 5x German teams in the draw fook knows?

Top 8 teams from the 4 groups qualify straight to the last 16. UEFA haven't said that it is 2 from each group but that is the assumption!

Teams 9-24 (presumably positions 3-6 per group - again UEFA are not explicit) go into a seeded playoff round home and away to determine which 8 join the top 8 seeds in the last 16. Thereafter it is the same as before.

Similar formats in the Europa and Conference.

Although it is groups of 9 the results are captured in one massive league table so results, GD etc are in comparison to everyone else

You just only play the teams in your "group"

Oh agreed that from now on we will get “further” in these competitions. For the reason they are so diluted.

I am no fan of this format whatsoever. It just means our squads play even more games and could impact upon our league aspirations which must always be our priority.

the bit that says groups? it one big overall league?

top 8 teams from the league skip a round, the teams from 9-24 go into a play off round.

posted on 1/8/24

one big league, every team will play 2 pot 1 teams, 2 pot 2 teams, 2 pot three teams and 2 pot 4 teams.

its a random draw from they pots (missing out same country teams etc.) for eg if celtic play madrid and city from pot 1 , you can get still get Athletic Madrid and Arsenal from pot as they dont need to be drawn against Real and Man City. so i dont get where the groups part comes from?

Athletic Madrid and Arsenal from pot 2*

Aye, you are right one big group of 36. UEFA site clear as mud as per. Rigged so that even if a diddy team has a few stunning results chances are they'll get kicked in the baws by big teams in the other games. Scheite calling it a league and declaring the winners after a few games.

So, does Rangers dubious record of worst ever group team stand for eternity?

I say eternity but...
