There are some real spiteful and nasty people in the world today, people are losing the core values left right and center.
The problem we have is the internet, back in the day it was called a soapbox. It is a platform for people to demand that they get listened to.
The best one I have had to put up with is that we all need to be more tolerant. What a load of rubbish.
The normal sane person which is 99% of us have always and will always be tolerant. But now we have people who think it is cool to be woke, or cool to be far left, just to show how "tolerant" they are, a sort of badge of honor. If you dare say something that they do not agree on, then you are a far right nut job.
Donald Trump should not be president of anything, not with his checkered past. But I have to say, I agree 100% with a lot of what he says. I have the same opinions towards Nigel Farage, I agree with a lot of what he says.
These people are saying what a lot of the normal sane people in our society are thinking. That is why people are voting for them.
Whatever you thoughts on Israel or Ukraine are your own thoughts, undoubtedly there is right and wrong on both sides. It does not make people right in what they say, and the insults that ensue from the debates are just spiteful.
I have this debate with a very good friend of mine, he is the leader of his church congregation. What he tells me sometimes is very poignant. I am sorry if you don't want to get embroiled in this, but I am going to tell you what he tells me anyway.
He tells me that Satan and is minions are winning and we cannot even see what is happening right in front of our eyes. The darkness is taking over. I asked him for examples, this is what he tells me:-
When was the last time you said hello to a stranger as you pass in the street ?
When was the last time you helped a pensioner cross the road ?
When was the last time you helped anyone with anything ?
When was the last time you prayed for someone other that yourself ?
When was the last time you prayed ?
When was the last time you put a stranger before yourself ?
I could go on. But you get my drift.
People who have voted for Donald Trump have done it, because the minority are drowning out the majority, Trump is not scared to speak his mind. Normal people are.
People will/have been arrested for speaking their minds, freedom of speech has gone, and nobody has noticed. Donald Trump after all the bad press did not do a bad job last time, what makes you all think he will do worse this time around ?
I apologies for the long ear chewing, and if you have taken the time to read all my droning, thanks.

I think in the short-term it might work out ok for but in the long-term, USA just can't try to be so insular and look after themselves, because they too are reliant on imports etc. So charging tariffs on anyone outside the USA will have a negative effect long-term.
What it does show you that whether it's a democratic country or not, having one country which holds so much power on the world stage is never a great thing, because you are so dependent on who is in charge and they don't do anything too crazy. The difference now is that the person in charge is so not in line with other countries' thinking in the western world, and suddenly everyone is in a panic.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s that attitude that lost the election for the Dems.
Whatever happened to compromise, why not make some concessions to appeal to a larger base - Trump won the populist vote as well.
The Republican analyst on CNN basically said that ordinary hard working Americans were fed up of being called garbage and naaaazis and effectively punished the Dems at the election.

I genuinely don't think the average American will be any worse off under him than they would be the Democrats. In fact some of their jobs could be argued to be more secure under Trump i.e. steel workers etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I guess 'average American' needs some unpacking. The average American probably excludes women and girls who are denied abortions, including after instances of rape and inсеst, or carrying an unviable pregnancy and needing one to save their life. It also excludes vulnerable demographics whose rights are threatened.
But even if we talk about the material conditions for white, straight, male Americans, if he goes through with his tariffs plan it will have a horrific effect on inflation, which seems to be the biggest reason voters rejected the Democrats based on Biden's record. It will also result in reciprocal tariffs which will damage US exports. If he goes through his plan of mass deportations, it will also devastate the economy. If he implements his fiscal proposals, taxes for the richest 5% will go down, and taxes for the rest will increase.
It's ungenerous for me to say so, but if they voted for Trump, I don't have much sympathy if that spells a tough four years.

I saw some MAGA guy on YT saying that the best thing about Trump winning is being able to drink the celeb liberal tears. There's also a clip of julia Hartley brewer on Talktv effectively saying the same thing. That explanation kind of says everything.
Firstly, it says that politics has become as tribal as sport like how when Arsenal lose and people hate watch AFTV - This is now happening with real life politics.
But the bit that really gets me is him saying that's the best thing about it - it speaks volumes about what a Trump presidency actually stands for, and the mindset of a Trump voter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes and what is the cause of that mindset?
It’s others calling those people Naaaazis, fascists, garbage, gammons, racists, etc. Now don’t get me wrong - some of those labels are correct for some of those people - but it was being used far too liberally, far too broad to describe a whole swathe of people.
I’m not right wing and I’m not left wing, i mostly vote based on how I think the UK will be affected economically. But calling anyone and everyone who votes Republican a Naaazi etc is insane and alienates people - the left needs to learn this otherwise this will keep happening

This is good analysis, the only thing missing being that the UK will suffer horribly in economic terms as well, unless:
A) we negotiate a beneficial trade agreement with Trump and the US - with Labour running things and their previous stance on Trump, this seems unlikely
B) we cost back up to the EU - this is very problematic politically. For a start, we really burned our bridges. Secondly, there would be a lot of opposition from within the country, the Brexiters would see it as a betrayal which could make Labour unelectable next time round. 3, even if we clear the first two hurdles, the rise of the far right in Europe and their relative positions in the EU, is going to be hard for our left wing government to broke favour with - they are idealogical opposites.

Compromise? You mean like Biden agreeing a bipartisan border security package with the hardline Republicans in Congress, only for Trump to nix it because it wasn't in his interests for Biden to be seen to have achieved something?
This 'we're tired of being called racist' typical disingenuous right-wing talk: a tactic that enables you to say vitriolic things while painting the opposition as condescending. Harris's campaign rhetoric had none of that. She talked about unity, she talked about the economic measures she proposed to help working people (acting against price gouging; supporting working families with better childcare provision; supporting unions; investing in jobs and housing). When explicitly racist attacks came from the other side, she laughed them off. Probably she found them ugly and hateful, but she knew that it's politically less effective to respond with righteous indignation. (Look at how she answered journalists' questions about Trump saying she wasn't black but now she claims to be black as an example.)

Striketeam7 on the impact on the UK:
I've seen a downgrading of UK GDP growth projections of 0.2% overnight, based on the expectation of Trump tariffs. That's far less than the impact of Brexit, of course. But I don't see any prospect of this Labour government attempting to rejoin the Single Market, even though that's the closest you can get to a silver bullet in terms of stimulating our economy. Despite the overwhelmingly pro-EU sentiments of the party and its core vote, Starmer seems to be dead set against taking that political risk, which reflects his wider lack of strategic thinking about the problems the country faces and the chances of making a significant positive impact before Labour is out of power again.

She did all that and lost, comfortably.
There was far more compromise to be had - especially economically.
What Harris represented was “more of the same” - which would have been great if Biden wasn’t running at a 45% negative opinion. Under the Dems, Russia invaded Ukraine and a war started in the Middle East - Harris’s response “joy” - whoever was strategising for her needs their head testing.
The Dems were all set to go with a dribbling husk of a man up until 3 and a half months out.
But their absolute biggest mistake, was alienating their traditional voter base - they lost blue collar America and by labelling all those people as racist and fascist they will continue to do so. They need to wise up, be a little more cunning, a little more ruthless and learn the fundamental errors of this epic faaaack up

I don't like him and what he stands for. If I was over there I'd not vote for him.
But he didn't bankrupt the country last time and he won't this time either. Americans are prepared to look the other way with the crazy BS that comes with him quite clearly as they are incredibly self centred people. They don't really give a stuff about Israel and Ukraine the vast majority of them.
The Democrats made a massive pigs ear of this election with the whole Biden will he won't he. That's been the issues.
Trump understands what America is better than people realise. He appeals to the less educated people and that's all intentional and all part of the plan.
America will be fine under Trump. The rest of us are at more risk.

I think it's more to do with the economy than immigration - You look at most western democracies who have had elections post-covid. Pretty much most of them have been voted out / suffered greatly.
I don't think any government, or opposition party, regardless if left or right thinking, would have looked good post-covid, so if you happened to be the person in charge, you were screwed.
So if Trump has won in 2020 (and obv that would have been his 2nd term), the next Republican candidate would have struggled to win this election.
Whilst immigration is an issue, I truly believe it isn't a major issue for a lot people, whereas the economy always hits home

It depends from whose point of view you look at it. Ask most Americans, and they aren't feeling that financially things are that great. Perhaps a little bit of progress recently, but it's been a tough period. I would add that if the Republicans had been in charge during that time, I doubt it would have been much better - just with post-covid, a case of wrong time wrong place, if you were in charge.

Right, so you support a N@zi / Rapist.
Just say that. It’s far quicker to type.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And there you go, what a spiteful insulting comment. I hope you feel better for announcing this on your soapbox.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, you know what’s spiteful (in fact f*cking evil) forcing a 12 year old child to carry and give birth to her rapists baby, locking migrant kids up in cages, persecuting LGBTQ people, Muslims and Haitians all of which will be happening and acceptable under Trump’s watch, so don’t you dare f*cking lecture me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there any need for this ?
If anyone is lecturing anyone, its you. You need to calm down, not once have I said anything that you have spouted.
Just remember, you are the one shouting out insults here, not me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't like him and what he stands for.

Racist garbage.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The irony is Biden has actually got the US economy into decent shape over the past couple of years.
Inflation is back around 2%, stock market was at a high, and wages were starting to grow.
Just watch Trump claim credit for all that in 3 months despite not enacting any policy.

To a certain extent the Americans have only themselves to blame for uncontrolled illegal immigration. The South American countries people are fleeing from have been reduced to failed states by the insatiable North American appetite for narcotics. Also, fun fact, 80% of the weapons used by narco cartels have been purchased in the good ole USA. Isn't the 2nd ammendment wonderful?

Sorry but Joe Biden was right, these people are garbage.
Racist garbage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well it’s what they are, so I ain’t going to pretend otherwise.
Let’s face it, these inbreds will accept fascism for slightly cheaper gas (or eggs)
F*ck em.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can’t say f*ck em, they are the majority - that’s how this works.
You have to find common ground and pull enough of them over to your side. That’s been politics from day dot - the dems either forgot that or mistakenly thought they were the majority - now they know.
I would go as far as saying that if the Republicans win in 2028 - the only people to blame will be the Democrats for allowing it to happen again. Learn your mistakes

In real terms wages still lag and nearly half of Americans polled felt they were worse off. Biden was finished 2 years ago - why they kept going with him I will never know, he had zero chance in that election. It was like when the Tories pedalled William Hague in front of Blair, just an absolute lamb to the slaughter

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, so you support a N@zi / Rapist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh just save it for church Cliff Richard.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't like him and what he stands for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It might be fine if you’re rich, male, white and straight, it sure as f*ck won’t be fine for anyone else.
