I used to wonder why players were kneeling before matches because surely everyone already is aware of racism and that it shouldn’t be present in football. Seemed pointless.
But it turns out in 2024 you have PL players who still don’t realise it’s a bad idea to not only say racist stuff, but literally want to show it off to the world. Not even trying to hide it. So maybe there really is a lack of awareness that it’s a problematic thing.
I know Argentina doesn’t have a diverse population, so maybe it’s more acceptable there, but if you play in the PL how does this not cross your mind.

It's quite diverse with Nazzzzzi direct descendents
It’s a shame no one is stupid enough to pay £100m for Enzo, apart from us.
We're probably better without Enzo anyway. Caicedo was so much better in the side when Enzo didn't play and he was allowed to get forward and get more involved in the opponent's half. And we've bought the likes of Dewsbury-Hall who are going to be much more suited to this Maresca side than chubby, slow Enzo.
Enzo gonna remember shortly half his team mates at Chelsea have African parents. 🤦♀️
The club should make an official statement otherwise staying silent just completely unwinds all the good stuff the club has done to fight racism in the past decade
Why are they singing about French players anyway?

Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French.”

So juvenile, so dumb have no words tnh
Fernandez's Chelsea team-mate Wesley Fofana, who is French and the son of an Ivorian father, took to X (formerly Twitter) to declare the video 'uninhibited racism'.

Apparently all our French players have unfollowed him on Instagram.
Exactly what we need heading into pre season.

If you give him the benefit of the doubt, and say he’s not actually racist but somehow just thought that song was appropriate and funny - he’s unbelievably stupid. At best - he’s a moron. He’s got a lot of work to do to make his teammates understand.
He could be facing a lengthy ban by the FA. If the club are smart, they should try and act before the FA do. Suspend him without pay
Gunna have to do Racismo education workshops
It’s the Argentina FA that should be taking action. Not sure how the FA get involved as it was the entire coach singing the song.

Maybe, but the video is global. He is a PL player and the FA and FIFA have the jurisdiction over the PL, not the Argentina FA.
Politically and morally I just can't see how given how heavily invested the English FA is in anti racism in football, that they can stand idly by and do nothing.
Yeah at literally every match there’s a pretty clear anti racism message present in some form.
The FA overreacted to Cavani reporting to his friend on Instagram and punished him for a couple games. This is so much worse than that so I wonder if they’ll impose a big ban.
That song has sinister undertones not just cause it's racist but to me it's also the singers of the song kinda boasting how ethically pure their own team is in comparison
Yeah true. Not sure any of us will complain if he gets a lengthy ban.
It’s a sweeping generalisation but South America in general is bad on a lot of social issues.
Look at Bentancur this summer with his Son comments, Moura spent half his time at spurs liking homophobic comments on Twitter.
Luis Suarez
Etc etc
Assuming Enzo, and the other Argentine players, will get multi-game suspensions.
Whether Enzo gets accepted back into the squad, assuming an apology, seems much more precarious. The fact that our French players have unfollowed him and Fofana putting out that tweet, seems to me to suggest they may not be too ready to welcome him back, even after an apology.
Also from the club's point of view, completely untenable to "force" people targeted by racism to work alongside the racist.
Best course of action would probably be a private apology and public apology, and then some education.
Clearlake likely unwilling to just cut off a player they stumped up £100m for, but without prudent action feels like this could turn pretty toxic.
He put up a vague comic sans apology
