Wasn't Atlanta a centenary/anniversary games and given over to the Yanks because of sponsors instead of the rightful hosts Greece (who got 2000 or 2004 instead)?

Would Britain happily keep it as a white elephant for that period of time? What about the Olympic Village being redeveloped?

See so many different things.

The 2012 Olympics virtually casting the track in stone.
Bidding for an athletics world championships.
Rugby WC games being played there.

And that's without the football club saga.

They are already dismantling some of the stadia.

in 2 years time half the Olympic site will be commercial buildings and flats

No chance Stratford would be able to host the games again.

The athletes village would as you say be the nail in the coffin for a future Olympics.

If London gets the (2015 ?? ) Athletics championships, it will be interesting to see what happens when all the competitors would be scattered all over London.

I do wonder if the OS debacle has somehow slowed our plans for the NLD. We must have chased it for a year at least with the subsequent legal battles.

Who knows what these unaccountable buffoons at the LLDC are thinking! Looks like the latest deadline will now be extended - again.

Who knows how these people think? I certainly don't & I spent 8 months at the ODA working on Olympic Contracts with the CompeteFor portal.

I read a bit about this yesterday & the biggest stumbling block seems to be the £160m to add retractable seating.

Also, its seems they might want to use it for Formula One now, although i'm assiming that would only be once a year.

West Ham in the OS

posted on 15/10/12

Now seems there is also talk that the E.U are getting upset as gibing the stadium to West Ham could count as government aid which is not allowed. Of course this also means Spurs will not get any government money either, don't mention the petitionq

Dramatic..............................You are getting confused as to what constitutes government aid.

West Ham's move to the OS is actually outside of their immediate area and is a pure commercial decision by West Ham in applying for the OS.

Spurs are looking to REGENERATE the immediate area around their ground whilst funding the cost of the Stadium. Any public money is purely for transport infrastructure such as tube & road links, and this regeneration of the local facilities is where any public money would be spent.

There will be no public money going on the staium itself.

stadium!

The "giving" has to be done in such a way that "state aid" cannot be inferred.

Given that the ODA basically soiled themselves that any potential EC review would rule against the original WHU bid , they will have to raise their game.

posted on 15/10/12

I also think there would be uproar if the LLDC allowed WHU to occupy the stadium & not pay for the retractable seating!

posted on 15/10/12

Surely the s can afford the seating, given all that money they have not spent from the original bid (40m ish) .

==================

We are frightened to death of West Ham getting the OS. Its because we all know, if it happens Carlton Cole will turn into Drogba, Winston Reid into Maldini & your midfield will all make Zidane look like Nigel Quashie.

You cant paint a horse & tell everyone its a zebra.

Players come and go. A stadium (and its benefits) is permanent.

Are you referring to the track between the stands & the pitch?
