He was on the verge of breaking through at 17 but as mentioned a horrific three way leg break happened and nearly ended his career before it began.
----------------------------------
But you can't fill in the blanks with what you want and use it to declare he is "far more talented" than Rooney. Barkley is now 20 and is not as good as Rooney was at 20.
As a number 10 playing off Louis Saha.
No need to be sorry..its just a difference of opinion but mine is based on watching him play full games for Everton

to be fair neither is Rooney
Wayne Rooney was also a striker then they play in different positions, that's a silly comparison.

So is mine.
Conor no I agree he should have just carried on playing with guys injury not be out over a year. How silly of me.
wow...some sensitive United fans around these days fortunately (or unfortunately depending on if you rate Barkley) he will be staying at Everton for some time yet at least so I wouldnt get too worked up about it

What are you talking about? I said you can't fill in the blanks with what you want, not that he should have played through his injury.
Thats a bit weird Conor tbh...bit weird...thats like me watching full United games, you either have no life or you're not a real United fan...& ultimately I dont believe that you watch full Everton games...
We've seen the same thing thrown at Ross as other up and coming English players. Andy Carroll, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshire, Matt Jansen, Adam Johnson, Stuart Downing (last two were claimed to have more potential than Giggs) to name a few. Ross will have to show he is worth his value.
We have overpaid for a lot of players recently. Young and Fellaini were way overpriced. We need to sort our scouting network out.
So I can't give a valid explanation to why his progress at 17 was halted? It's not just filling in blanks, his career nearly ended. He's now 19 his injury happened at the worst possible time for him just after getting in the match day squad.

No it's not weird that I watch football games that don't involve my team. Believe me, that's pretty normal.
And to make myself clear, I didn't say I watch as many full games as you do, just that I'm basing my opinion on Barkley on watching him in full games (at Sheffield Wednesday too).
I'm pretty damn sure I read comments on the old 606 claiming Rodwell was a bigger talent than Rooney and it turned out to be comical hyperbole. Barkley is maybe a slightly better dribbler than Rooney at the same age. Rooney looked a class apart in just about any other facet of his game. How the fack is Barkley more talented than Rooney?
Ive watched them both in the flesh as breakthrough teens, Ross is a class above.

Wayne Rooney played off Van Nistelrooy and Saha amongst others for his first few seasons actually. He was not a number 9 for us until after he turned 20.

Great story. A load of ballacks but a great story nonetheless.
If barkley achieves half of what Rooney has done, he'll have done VERY VERY VERY well indeed.

Rooney at Everton, Barkley was a 'class above' this was he?
But like I say is anyone on here more qualified than Ray hall or discovered players of equivalent ilk then fair enough but he's said Ross is more talented.
Ross will have to show he is worth his value**
Yawn...he's already shown it & more importantly me old china he isnt leaving
Barkley may very well one day be worth £50 million. But not for a long time.
and just for the record Wayne Rooney at 16,17 and 18 and 19 was a 'class above' Cristiano Ronaldo, that is a FACT
Sheriff/Stretford please list your scouting discoveries below so we can compare your credentials.
