RVP remember to change gears too whilst reversing.

You may save fuel, but the extra strain you put on your gear box could end up costing you a lot more!
-----------------------------
Nah, modern gear boxes are more than capable of dealing with changing down through the gears. After all, it's how they'er supposed to be used.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah there's not many hills around where I drive, we usually stick to the town centre and quiet areas such as houses etc
I free wheel al the time.

You mean while you're stopped? Yes, you change back into 1st during the time you're sitting waiting for the car in front of you to move.
It's not that difficult
.............
No it isn't and no one has said it is.
But it is easier in an auto, isn't it?
--------------------
Yes it is.
Sometimes I really do wish that I could just sit there in peace while I'm stopped rather than having to move that pesky stick over to 1st gear. Would make my life a whole lot easier

Hoping to soon. It's only really worthwhile if you have a turbo though

You should ask your instructer to teach you that then because if you come across it one day you'll be freaking out if you don't know what you're doing
quiet roads near houses I meant
I'm thinking about it too RPV. Its either that or a remap.

what do you have Mr C?
Before I emigrated to Spain I bought a semi-auto little Corsa for my last 4 months. Brilliant, but shifting up gears, you go UP, UP, UP, and the same coming down. There's no H-type gear arrangement, just up and down, which takes some getting used to. Wife loved it, though. Especially in heavy traffic.

Does that work?

Yep, it will sound like Ali G's Renault 5. Alternative is drilling holes in the airbox which also works.
Wouldn't say it sounds better...
If someone uses a chainsaw, (not a standard saw) to chop down a tree, are they lazy, or energy efficient?
If a commis chef chops vegetables with a mandolin not a knife, are they lazy, or energy efficient?
I can understand the control aspect of driving but surely in this day and age, you can't be called lazy for taking the option whereby technology makes things easier.
