Alot of modern auto cars will change gear at higher revs if you floor it, as they know you're wanting to drive like a loon on that particular day.
Ok, you want to take a drink, the car in front of you breaks, you have to change down a gear. Coffee has to go back into the cup holder.
---------------------
Just throw the clutch down and free wheel until you need to change. It's not even an issue at all
How does yours work because I'm fairly certain that's how automatic cars are built to operate?
...................
I guess you don't drive an auto then.
Woah, no need for the stupid comments
............
I assumed you were not stupid. What the hell is wrong with that?
Would you like me to assume you are stupid?
Cantona just been arrested in London for assault
Why would you want to drink coffee whilst driving anyway. Leave drinking coffee for when your sat at home.

Ok you're driving, coffee in one hand, pedestrian is on a zebra crossing. She's already started her journey to the other side. You have to stop but in order to stop you will need to put your coffee down and change gears. Do you speed up and try to beat the pedestrian so you can carrying on enjoying the aroma of your coffee or slow down and risk spilling your coffee all over your George Asda suit?

Anyone seen them coffee cups with lids on?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, Earl that is what I have
First and foremost, depress the clutch when you brake to avoid stalling
Secondly you want a manual license for sure, I quite like the whole changing gear aspect to driving. If you want to take the fun out get an automatic
Why would you want to drink coffee whilst driving anyway.

Well, it is all about staying awake at 5 o'clock in the morning, for me.
That, and I like coffee.

Why is that hard to believe?
I learned in an automatic at first then moved to manual. I've owned both and regularly find myself having to drive someone else's automatic car

Clutch and brake until stopped. I don't know why this is so hard for the 'Auto' guys to grasp?!? You don't need to change gear whilst slowing down, only when you need to re-engage the engine to start up again

Should have arrested the cockney for head butting Erics fist.
Not driven an automatic, but personally I enjoy driving so I imagine driving an auto would be quite unsatisfying until I'm older maybe.
It's not hard though, like people have said before the clutch control ans gear changes becomes second nature

Spot on, I can be driving in 5th and slow down to a stop with the clutch in without using my hands at all. The only time you need to change out of 5th would be to start moving again
