I'm at the point where I wouldn't even want to drive an automatic car as it feels so wrong. It's like driving a go-kart
...................
If you drove in a large city day in day out you would be the opposite.
Once you drive an auto, you would never go back to a gear.

I find my manual fine for driving round the city. I don't give it a second thought.

No, which is a fair point because I guess I can't claim to have experienced both.
That said, I wouldn't even think about driving an automatic and don't find my manual in the least bit labourious.

I used to drive gearsticks in London for about six years. Driving in US major cities in an auto is just so much easier.
It really is.
go someplace quiet and learn your clutch control. My advice would be to keep letting go of the clutch not too high or fast. Once u done with it you will know where the biting point is
Never driven an automatic. Never had any trouble with gears though. Especially if you want to put your foot down. Nothing like a sweet downshift!
Semi auto DSG is surely the best of both worlds. I mean in my car i have Drive, Sport Mode, and the paddles on the steering wheel when i feel like having a play around.

When I first came out to the USA, I said to my self that I would drive gear stick no matter what.
That lasted about five minutes into my first hire car.
No matter how second nature driving a gear stick is, driving an autio is just so much easier.

Well yeah It's definitely easier but it depends how much weight you want to add to "ease of use" over the benefits of manuals. I can't imagine ever deciding that easiness of driving an automatic would overcome the reasons i like driving manuals.
There's also more manual cars in the world than automatic as well which is a bit crap for me
You have to be able to drive a manual, the skill is a good one to have and like riding a bike you never forget it becomes second nature.
Of course when you get to be able to have a choice an automatic with the paddles on the steering wheel are great.
MPG wise you'd get over 60 in a manual car on motorways but for autos more like 45.. big difference

You would if you had to drive through major cities.
Its much easier to drink your morning caffine fix driving an Auto, for starters.

I live in London, having moved from Manchester. I drive/drove manuals in both
Forgot to say I fecking hate reversing in a manual car too

I'm the opposite. I started automatic but once I drove manual I could never go back. Every now and then I'll find myself using an automatic car again but it's just not the same.
And it's not that difficult to eat/drink/text while driving stick. You just go no hands on the wheel for a second while you switch gears
Anyone else hearing news that Cantona has been arrested for assault?
Automatic cars? Pah it's a cop out and they are boring to drive in comparison to a amnual transmission. Anyone who says it's easier to drive an automatic is just a crap driver
Conor
Hire an auto for a day, and drive it through the city for three or four hours.
It will be a real eye opener. It certainly was foor me.
All you automatic lovers just sound like crap lazy drivers, Arab you hate reversign in a manual? WTf is up with that???
Driving a manual transmission is a skill, driving an automatic is not more skillful then driving a bumper car
