I'll probably change my mind and end up buying a manual car anyway I'm just having a loan about the clutch

Also how does a semi automatic car work? Does it change gear automatically as well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sort of. You usually knock the stick over to one side and just push forwards or backwards depending on whether you want to change up or down but it won't change until you do. Still don't need to clutch though.
If you've only had 7 lessons and you're already thinking of packing it in and driving automatic then you've given up to easily.

You have both automatic and manual and you can switch to either. There's no clutch pedal though so when you're in manual you just change gears with gear stick

Ahh cheers I never see many of them around though, do many people drive them?
Automatic cards are for girls and Yanks.
Best thing I did was teaching myself to drive when I was 13 in a field. You get to grips with everything in your own time and then by the time you are legal all you have to do is learn to pass the test (i.e 10-2 hand positions etc)

To me it depends on your requirements.
If driving in the City, it has to be an automatic.
If in the country, gear stick.
If you choose to drive an automatic you're basically accepting that you're a girl and you can't drive for shi t
My parents drive automatic cars, it's probably a gene thing

Most auto's have the option, it's supposed to be for hill-climbing, towing, ice/snow etc - certain situations where you don't want the car to change gear

Yeah I'll defo be in the City VC
Well I'll be in my last year of Eastbourne next year and the cars here are all manual
the biggest issue with an automatic, especially one with a fair sized engine is it will cost you a fortune in fuel.

Once drove an automatic on a really snowy day. It was almost impossible to control. Also tend to find that auto's burn more fuel. Always preferred manual, but now due to my disability I have a semi-automatic

VW DSG 7speed will be about equal to a manual. Your BMW lumps are probably juicy though?
Manual all day long. Once you get used to it, it becomes second nature and you don't even notice youself going through the motions.
I'm at the point where I wouldn't even want to drive an automatic car as it feels so wrong. It's like driving a go-kart
Plus all top end performance cars tend to be manual. And going fast in them is so much more rewarding
