There's a reason the newspaper trade is booming and that's for their accurate and up to the minute content. So I have no reason to doubt that the awkward silence did happen.

Suck it up scousers.

Newspaper trade is not booming.

Another fail

OK, let's do a Liverpool version.

Peter Moore's attempts to complete the league were met by enthusiastic cheers and rapturous applause by other club chairmen.

"I couldn't get a word in edgeways" claimed the Liverpool CEO. "Some were saying I should get a Knighthood".

Sounds normal

I posted on the Liverpool board weeks ago that I think you should be awarded the title, the full title no asterisk, and the league scrapped.

I honestly don't think we should be in what I think of as an unedifying rush to start, which is solely based money, except for Liverpool who want what's rightfully theirs.

We shouldn't be playing until it's safe for crowds to gather.

The only other option is to finish the season whenever it's completely safe to start.
-----
Valid concern but what happens to clubs and the football pyramid if no football is played maybe until next year? Your club will be fine but 90% of other clubs will not. Genuine question.

I understand the government dilemma, they can't let all business collapse, but they can't seem to be overseeing hundreds of deaths every week.

They have to careful how to end the confinement, imo football should be in the same category as all spectator sports, theatres, cinemas etc.
-------
Not exactly the same. Cinemas and sports are different because some sports can get by without people actually watching live. Sports can be watched on TV and money is earned through subscriptions, you can't watch Cinema on TV.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can if you know where to look. Haven't paid for a cinema ticket in well over 5 years, nor have I not been able to watch any latest release in crystal clear HD.

Yeah, we're talking covid here so cinema obviously means going to the movies being curtailed. So watching movies at home is not really cinema.

It is a genuine question how lower division clubs will manage, and I have no answer. But nor do I think a few, or more than a few, televised PL games, will rescue them.
I suppose they will have to appeal to their fans, local councils, endeavour to sell more season tickets, keep furlough until the last moment. It will be difficult, but we are in a perilous position.

I dare say sports can get by without live audiences, but who likes it. Also I does show it's for money. Yes cinimas are, à little, different, but overall I think we are better waiting until crowds can gather.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not so much a matter of liking it as opposed to saving hundreds of clubs and all their employees and businesses surrounding grounds etc if possible and if health concerns allow it.

Because of covid, you are being asked to get by with reduced quality for a while and for a good cause too. Get behind the project

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's not specifically about a few televised games. It is hundreds of millions that will be lost out of the game if the season is ended. Now Prem teams will be hit hard, Norwich are already talking about 50 million plus losses if the season ends. That is across the board. Some can take that hit, but lower league clubs cannot. You have to understand that part of the TV deal includes money going down the leagues. Not enough, granted as clubs need gate receipts too. Whether they can survive with some kind of additional package over the next 3 years with Prem TV money I don't know. What seems to be the case though, is if that money goes back to SKY/BT, the lower league teams have no chance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It just wouldn't happen though. There's absolutely no benefit to Sky or BT to take this approach. A solution would obviously be found as both those firms will need to be in the race when the bidding comes around again, or they'll be on the road to a slow death. The TV companies need the PL more than the other way round, especially with psharks like Facebook/Amazon/Netflix circling around with a taste for blood. Far too much being made of this TV money issue.

The lower leagues are much less dependent on TV money.

The Government should treat them like other similar sized companies and offer them guaranteed loans.

And if games can't be played at all then money for next season isn't coming in. Even the Prem would be screwed if that happened.

I don't understand why some people are so adamant and foolhardy about this. Its not rocket science. If this project fails the consequences will come.

What should worry people is that things could continue to worsen so much so that the go ahead from the govt is denied. What then?

Always do on Tuesdays. It is to do with the recording of deaths over the weekend. No news here. As per usual with you.

Total UK deaths see sharp rise

Nearly 25,000 deaths from all causes were recorded in the UK in week of the Easter bank holiday - 108% above the expected number for this time of year.

The figure of 24,686 was a further rise on last week's figure of 20,929 deaths, which itself was 76% above normal.

The figures for England, Wales and Northern Ireland are for the week 11-17 April, while the figures for Scotland are for the week 13-19 April.

You obviously read the parts of the article you liked - As per usual.

We lose football clubs. Think it's quite likely to happen, tbh.

Nobody wants to owe these companies a favour.

-------
Exactly.

Any "solution" would involve promises made to Sky and BT which would preclude/hinder deals with Amazon/Netflix/Facebook.

Why would SKY and BT do a favour if they're on the way out? There are many logical vacuums with your comment here. You haven't thought it through.

Why do you think they'd be so ready to "forgive" the debt?

PL will want to make a clean cut at all times. Any deal will compromise future earnings by limiting the space for competitive bidding.

Sky and BT know competition is coming and if the Prem bosses are stupid at this time then they will be hogtied and ridden for the next few years.

I dare not believe any such company would give up hundreds of millions without an ace up their sleeve. This is a brutal environment.

Exactly.

I've seen an argument that there are too many clubs in England which contributes/causes the struggles we see and that we should let clubs fold and take it from there.

Makes sense but still a terrible idea.

why don't the PL give their thousands of testing kits to NHS frontline Nurses so they can be sure they are not infecting their families when they come home from their shifts on Covid wards, rather wasting them on multi-millionaire footballers can defy social distancing regulations and have a game of footy ?

Just an idea?
