Wonder why they reduce the punishment from 30 to 10M when there was no evidence they breached the rules. Can someone explain that to me?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought there was evidence, they just couldn't use it because the emails were hacked?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah they were too old. As they were over 5 years old, an obvious admission of cheating, was irrelevant. In spite of the emails being sent in the time period they were purportedly investigating! Crazy

Have to say I’m not surprised nobody has changed their opinion
----------------------------------------------------------------------
why would anyone change their opinion?

All CAS did was confirm you had been sponsoring yourselves through your owner, but you didn't lie about it.

that you did break rules but UEFA were too slow and missed the 5 year statute.

doesn't actually change the fact it happened. just gave you a loophole to walk away scot free.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you not read the verdict or something?

indifferent to the verdict, if any thing I am probably happier than not even as utd fan.

city being or out of the ucl is so far from my list of priorities as a utd fan

my only point is I never understood the reason for FFP. Is FFP there to protect clubs from themselves? Protect the status quo of established clubs? Protect the integrity of the game? Because it does not do any of these things in my eyes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On announcing the new legislation, former UEFA President Michel Platini said,

Fifty per cent of clubs are losing money and this is an increasing trend. We needed to stop this downward spiral. They have spent more than they have earned in the past and haven't paid their debts. We don't want to kill or hurt the clubs; on the contrary, we want to help them in the market. The teams who play in our tournaments have unanimously agreed to our principles…living within your means is the basis of accounting but it hasn't been the basis of football for years now. The owners are asking for rules because they can't implement them themselves – many of them have had it with shovelling money into clubs and the more money you put into clubs, the harder it is to sell at a profit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
thanks for your replies
so FFP is there to help clubs manage their finances. Then it is a really pointless rule. The everyday equivalent is if my bank told me I am not able to take out a loan/mortgage I can clearly afford because a bunch of other people decided they are not sensible enough with theeir own finances

The important thing is City have still been fined which means they are GUILTY of wrongdoing. The other important thing is CAS have bottled it, probably threatened by the UAE.

Cas panel members - what do they do in AD to people that don’t agree with them?

Well...........

Dunno Pride

Wouldnt the UEFA know that they can't punish them with a two years ban then?

I wonder why the UEFA found evidence to fine City for 2 years and the CAS found the evidence not conclusive enough? Does that mean the UEFA fined City frivolously?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
CAS uses the Law, UEFA does not.

UEFA got hold of stolen emails which showed exactly how City were sticking a middle finger up at FFP.

that evidence would be deemed inadmissible in a court as it was not obtained legally.

City also refused in every way to assist with UEFA's investigation.

bluntly, UEFA would have little to no evidence to present to CAS, City would have droves of doctored books and such to give to CAS.

outcome was always guaranteed given that UEFAs investigation was built on illegally obtained materials.

doesn't change the fact they cheated just makes it impossible to punish. hence my earlier point, just spend what you like and refuse to assist UEFA if they try audit you. if someone leaks your books or dodgy sponsorships deals and UEFA ban you go to CAS and they just dismiss that evidence.

simples.

“Manchester City have always been quite bullish about this. They have denied any allegations of wrongdoing and said the process of the Uefa investigation were flawed. This is the outcome.”

so City said the UEFA process was flawed yet refused to assist them? hmmmm.

why don't UEFA have a CAS of their own haha
----------------------------------------------------------------------
like I said money is king
It buys you great lawyers and great lawyers will pick out loopholes in even the tightest situation let alone stupid rules like FFP

City's lawyers must have had the biggest grin knowing they were about to make the easiest buck in their career

Doesn’t look like UEFA will be taking this matter to the Swiss courts for appeal either, they’ve been well and truly floored by the defence lawyers.

Incorrect - the fine is for them not cooperating with EUFA investigation, not for FFP related acusations!

Evidence obtained through illegal means is not inadmissible. It is up to the court whether to allow it or not. Many courts have allowed illegal evidence because it was relevant to the case at hand.

Nothing surprising about this.

It was expected from me personally. Corrupt money helps.

But it is also why no one will ever take Man City's achievements seriously.

As much as we didn't want Pool to win the title, days like this make it more tolerable as they are a proper club. I hope they take City's points record too.

Oh well, we got a job to do tonight. Bring on Southampton!
