“I don't condemn any form of showing an opinion”
Did you really think that through and mean to type that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Poorly worded to be fair.
Obviously there are limits but everybody I speak to feels the same way about taking the knee. It's pointless virtue signalling from people who have the power to do more and choose not to.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's people sharing a standpoint with racists, even if they arent.
I don't for one second believe you are racist but you are intelligent and should realise how problematic you saying
"Stop taking the knee, you should be doing more"
Is given the racists/racially prejudiced who are saying "Stop taking the knee"
This thread is literally about booing, but instead of just condemning the booing, you are arguing with those who DO condemn it because you think footballers should do more.
You don't do nothing until you do more, you do something and THEN do more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But we've been doing this for a year now I think? And nobody is doing more.
Social media blackout was a good start and then that stopped for some reason.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you contradict yourself there, they did start doing more, but unless you want sponsership money and TV Rights to flee the game over media boycotts, collapsing the entire financial structure of the football pyramid it's not a sound idea long term.
And it does not excuse the booing of an ongoing gesture.
You don't take steps backwards to go forward. Stopping the kneeling is a step backwards, and its an un-necessary to stop to alleviate your complaints with the gesture, but stopping WOULD legitimise the racists who are against it.
To say "I think they should be doing more" is a completely legitimate and valid viewpoint that I support
To suggest they need to stop kneeling as a result is just sharing ground with a group of racists who it makes uncomfortable

I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying.
But surely racial injustice is more important than money, and the financial impact of boycotting social media would be entirely worth it if changes were brought about as a result?
The fact that sportspeople don't try and do this but take the knee makes me feel like it's just to appear that they're doing the right thing rather than actually using their standing in society. That's what frustrates me.
Different situation sure but look at Naomi Osaka, pulled out of the French open and likely to pull out of Wimbledon and change is actually happening as a result. Boycotts and refusal to play makes such a big difference.

I agree with you though, if there wasn't institutionalised racism it wouldn't constantly be a debate. And as a white person I absolutely do not have the ability to give an opinion on that as obviously I've not experienced it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
thank you. it feels like people are trying to convince me that certain things 'don't exists' when i have seen, heard, read and felt it first hand, read about it in numerous books, seen various documentary's and films about it but people still deny it exists, it crazy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also AFC you are absolutely spot on in saying that Zaha should be treated differently to white footballers on this issue.
I hear your frustrations but I just get annoyed watching football players who could do so much more take a knee and think it makes a difference. Just feels to me that they don't really care enough to do something real but want to be seen to be caring
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest mate, it wasn't me talking about the Zaha thing, it was someone else but i understand what they were trying to say.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yh it was me mate. And you get people saying unhelpful stuff like "well thats racist". Mind boggling
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That was me. I'm still intrigued as to why people of different races should be treated differently on the issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because people of different races are highly likely to have different experiences of racism, how is it that hard to comprehend?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Right... still not seeing the connection. This is about kneeling right? Imagine (and I'm taking an extreme here) all white player kneeling and black players not. 😂
Sorry, back to serious matters. I don't really get the attitude of 'you don't know, so do as I say' kind of thought.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've gone off on a bit of a tangent here. You've asked why Zaha should be treated differently to a white player who may choose not to participate in the kneeling, and you've been given an answer.

They are ratcheting it up, that's what the boycott was, and that's probably what will happen again.
Destroying the football structure won't do anything to combat racism, you need to view their dissent through that lens, and consider the backlash for seconds taking a knee, imagine the backlash for any further disruption
Again, there's no need for you to be against taking the knee, it undermines the rest of your very valid points and just puts you in the same space as racists and idiot MPs comparing it to a narzi salute, but that's just my opinion on it.
There seem to be a few on here can't separate disagreeing with taking a knee and booing.
It's fine to disagree with taking a knee if you think it's an empty gesture, it's fine if you think they should be doing more, but that's not the same as booing it.

“ Black players have choice without criticism, white players don't. ”
Google ‘white premier league players criticised for not taking knee’
All that comes up is Zaha’s reasons for not doing it and stories about International rugby etc.
Unless you’ve got examples?

It's about making people uncomfortable.
If it makes a racist uncomfortable because they don't agree with racial equality good, it's doing it's job
If it's making you uncomfortable because you feel more should be done.. good, it's doing its job.
If you are the latter, don't get caught up calling for it to end with the former.
JS
“ The next step, if it hasn't already happened. If a player is racially abused the whole team should leave the pitch. This will put an enormous amount of pressure on the racists as 30k+ fans will be looking to beat them as they lose their game”
This just panders to the minority of idiots at the expense of the majority who just go to watch a game IMO.

TBH, players have done a lot to alter society and racism. We have come a long way from bananas and monkey gestures.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats some good idea's that i think should be implemented alongside the kneeling imo but if people think taking a knee for 10 secs is divisive, what do you think will happen when players walk off the pitch every week for getting racially abused?...carnage imo!!

“ The next step, if it hasn't already happened. If a player is racially abused the whole team should leave the pitch. This will put an enormous amount of pressure on the racists as 30k+ fans will be looking to beat them as they lose their game”
This just panders to the minority of idiots at the expense of the majority who just go to watch a game IMO.

forget the paraphase, sorry.
what would you be keen to see from the players in regards to racism?

TBH, players have done a lot to alter society and racism. We have come a long way from bananas and monkey gestures.

Thats some good idea's that i think should be implemented alongside the kneeling imo but if people think taking a knee for 10 secs is divisive, what do you think will happen when players walk off the pitch every week for getting racially abused?...carnage imo!!
