There seem to be a few on here can't separate disagreeing with taking a knee and booing.

It's fine to disagree with taking a knee if you think it's an empty gesture, it's fine if you think they should be doing more, but that's not the same as booing it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the thread has evolved to splitting the two and they don't necessarily intertwine.

I don't like the booing, and I'm not keen on the kneeling either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can i ask what you would be 'keen' on, in this issue we're discussing?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No idea why keen has been paraphrased, but let's carry on. Why issue? Racism? Kneeling? Booing?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
forget the paraphase, sorry.
what would you be keen to see from the players in regards to racism?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I can answer that I'd say social media boycotts permanently until changes are made with Twitter / Instagram / Facebook.

Permanent device bans from those platforms for anybody found guilty of it and heavy fines issued.

And I don't mean 100 quid, I mean thousands.

Should publicly humiliate racists. Pause the game for them to give an explanation from the centre circle over the PA system.

Don't you feel that the social media boycott is kinda punishing the victims, for just being there though?
The 2nd and 3rd part, yeah.

“ The next step, if it hasn't already happened. If a player is racially abused the whole team should leave the pitch. This will put an enormous amount of pressure on the racists as 30k+ fans will be looking to beat them as they lose their game”

This just panders to the minority of idiots at the expense of the majority who just go to watch a game IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And I believe that minority will be silenced in a very short time. Probably with a few bruises.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully we’ve moved on from open fighting on the terraces. Besides while it is occasional at matches, Man City has a fan charged recently, it’s more on social media. You can’t have players walk off mid-match because knobhead on Twitter is a racist.

That could backfire real quick if a large part of the crowd start agreeing with whatever trash they start saying..

He was only fined £500. Probably the harder sanction was city banning him for life, fair play to them.

Not read the replies but as Lineker tweeted.

The people booing are the reason people are kneeling.

People are booing because they are fed up with billion pound companies who bang on about diversity and equality then tow the line to appease China. Or Sky always showing the "we're all in" against racism adverts all the time then they'll stage boxing events in Saudi Arabia for money. People don't like being told what to think by hypocrite companies who are only interested in profits.

People are also fed up with multi millionaire footballers who are paid by shady billionaires. These footballers take the knee to promote fairness and equality then proceed to cheat, foul mouth officials and generally act like spoiled brats. Many of them will also be off to Qatar to play in a world cup next year, I'm sure they'll be protesting against that as much as possible, I won't hold my breath though.

Footballers have every right to take the knee, we live in a free country. I personally wouldn't boo if I was at a football match, however I won't look to the premier League or footballers (black or white) for any moral teachings thanks very much.

TBH, players have done a lot to alter society and racism. We have come a long way from bananas and monkey gestures.

The next step, if it hasn't already happened. If a player is racially abused the whole team should leave the pitch. This will put an enormous amount of pressure on the racists as 30k+ fans will be looking to beat them as they lose their game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats some good idea's that i think should be implemented alongside the kneeling imo but if people think taking a knee for 10 secs is divisive, what do you think will happen when players walk off the pitch every week for getting racially abused?...carnage imo!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I honestly think the pressure would be too high. It may happen for less than 5 games before the fans will stamp it out.

Personally, I find the kneeling hollow and virtue signalling BECAUSE it doesn't really do much and is a club/prem decision, not a player's. By all means kneel if you want in any sporting event, but the idiots shouldn't be tolerated for abusing those that don't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The PFA had conducted a survey of its members regarding taking the knee, and, they said, “The results were clear; players overwhelmingly support continuing this act of solidarity despite any adverse responses that may be received.”

You have just provided another example, despite evidence showing otherwise, of twisting the narrative to justify being against the gesture.

Players have said they are choosing to kneel and aren't being forced to (and those that don't want to aren't - see Zaha), and yet you have once again stated that this idea that it osnt their choice and they are being forced to.

It is an attempt to suggest we should oppose the gesture because we are forcing people to do it against their free will (which would be bad) but doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

They're not handing out 'moral teachings' (whatever they are) though, are they?

They're helping to keep the issues around racial inequality alive. Judging by this article they're succeeding.

So your basically fed up of rich people...not racism?. And because they shout at a ref in a football match, about a decision they don't agree with, everything that they do is irrelevent...right

Orrrrrr...... perhaps cheating players that rarely display exemplary behaviour shouldn't be the moral peacocks?

You can be a cheat without being a racist.

Its an extreme example because a player cheating on a pitch is nothing close to racism. But if a murderer was condemning paedophilia you would ignore them?

So even though we are divided on here and all other surveys, you believe the prem players are all United bar Zaha?

I guess I'm just sceptical
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've simply provided the evidence that suggests that the majority are in favour. I have also given an example (Zaha) that shows players can refuse if they want and so aren't being forced.

Your claim has been made in spite of this evidence, without your own evidence to back it up. If that's the bar you set for declaring something as fact then that's an issue.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
You sound smart enough from all the discussions we've had today, to understand that highlighting racism/discrimination isn't people being moral peacocks or moral teachers, it's something that we all experience, regardless of our job, pay, education, status etc..they just have a bigger platform to show it on.
