Not sure how Carlton Palmer and Geoff Thomas haven't made your list, but hey ho.

Gerrard is the best of a bad bunch of recent English midfielders.

Gerrard should not be in this list. Never been a great midfielder.

This is rediculous

So is your spelling
Zidane
Platini
Laudrup
Seedorf
Jimmy Johnston
The list is a bit post-2000s-heavy, isn't it? Can we really talk about the best ever when we don't have much knowledge stretching back beyond 15 years ago? Personally, I don't have encyclopaedic knowledge of football or personal memories of live football before the mid-80s, but there are some obvious candidates who are at least as good as some on the OP:
Neeskens
Matthaus
Rijkaard
Charlton
Rivera
Beckenbauer
Robson (not a GOAT in my book but up there with Keane and better than Gerrard!)
If we are also including borderline number 10s, the likes of Maradona, Socrates, Zico have to come into it.
If I could choose one midfielder from my time as a football fan it would be Scholes.
I see a player who's skills could be adapted to practically any system and he would excel IMO, also he could play a variety of roles in the system (deep-playmaker, box to box, attacking midfielder).
The midfielder that has functioned best within a system would be Xavi (in Barca's 4-3-3), his performances at the 2008 Euro's were outstanding but it was during the season of Barcelona's (and possibly club football's) history in 2008/2009 where his performances were from a different planet. The best season a midfielder has had in recent times and it'll be a long time before it's equalled or bettered.

Do you disagree with Fergie -
"If you were looking for the player you would replace Keane with, it's Gerrard, without question," Ferguson told The Sunday Times. "He has become the most influential player in England, bar none.
"Not that Vieira lacks anything, but I think that Gerrard does more for his team than Vieira does.
"To me, Gerrard is Keane; he is now where Keane was when Roy came to us in 1994. I've watched him quite a lot, and everywhere the ball is, he seems to be there.
"He's got that unbelievable engine, desire, determination. Anyone would take Gerrard.
"Vieira has done that job for Arsenal for two or three years. But you can see Gerrard rising and rising."
Might as well put Cleverly, Anderson & Carrick in. They have league titles
I'm sorry, what? How is it ridiculous. Gerrard has NEVER shown world class ability on an even slightly consistent basis playing in midfield. Gerrard's best performances came between 07-09, this is when he was at his ultimate peak and the only time he could be genuinely considered a world class footballer. And during this time period he played as a 2nd striker! Not a midfielder!!!
So the standard of a player simply goes on what they have won???
Does that mean Luke Chadwick is better than Robin Van Persie?
Luke Chadwick is infinitely better than Robin van Persie
Valderama
Socrates
Rijkaard
Koeman
I forgot Matthaus. What a player
Was just going to say Laudrup! He was immense
