I reckon Barnes would do a job for Liverpool...

Interesting....25% of footballers are BME (I would have thought this was higher). Why then are so few doing coaching badges or getting jobs? Maybe they feel there's no point

25% of footballers NOW may be black, but 20 years ago (the generation of players who are now coaches) it wasn't that high.

I think the point is that the amount qualified is markedly disproportionate to those employed and that goes for all roles.
I dont think Barnes is a good manager and i dont think his skin colour stops him from working.
however there does seem to be a massive lack of black managers. The reason for this can only be understood with all the facts..e.g percentage of black candidates for jobs with the required coaching badges etc.

Sorry Robbing just seen it. Interesting stuff.
looks to be a disparity but not by much...
Could one of the answers to this be that clubs are reluctant to hire managers and coaches of ethnicity because they feel they might have the 'race card' played against them if they sack that person for not being any good..
I can easily understand that kind of catch 22 situation, to be honest.
Maybe If he had even one tiny little bit of success in management he would have a point. Maybe he should get a job for a Sunday league team and work his way up instead of wanting to be spoon fed. Pathetic.

would this not be exactly the same as a BME player?
Barnes doesn't appear to be a good manager from what we have seen and every time I hear him open his mouth I think he is full of waffle. He reminds me of Tony Adams - talks a lot without actually saying anything and thinks he is more intelligent than he actually is. I wouldn't let him anywhere near my football team and that has nothing to do with his skin colour. I just think he is a bit of an idiot.
Probably makes a valid point, maybe not so much in terms of his own management record, and inability to secure a management position, but nevertheless, I suspect there is still a certain level of institutional racism on the back burner of many decisions regarding employment of football managers.
However, as regard him not having any success in his past managerial career, it must be remembered a pretty large majority of managers who move from club to club have never had any success whatsoever, but seem to have little problem finding positions within the game, after failing at their last club.

John Barnes actually talks a lot of sense, regarding the game, and the issues that surround it, beyond the boring garb that many ex players come out with.
As for Tony Adams, he basically talked incredibly slowly, and paused a lot, without as you say, actually saying anything.

John Barnes becomes more and more aggressive, the more he talks. He starts off ok though.

I can't say that I have ever been privy to this.
Macca is the only former Liverpool player who I find talks sense as a pundit. Hansen used to be ok, even with his kids comment.

On many occasions Barnes has spoken in regard to racism within the game, and society with much more depth of understanding, and thoughtfulness that any other ex player or commentator has I can think of.

I haven't heard Carra yet, but have heard good things about him.
Agree, Souness isn't bad.
Quite like Danny Murphy although he's safe. Steve McManamantalks sense pitch side.
There is a problem, I think Barnes is a crappy manager though.
Question I have for the FA though is they want to implement a program that positively discriminates in favour of English youth players.
But do not want one for black players (The Rooney Rule)
Funny isn't it.
Something else that might be worth considering is (certainly higher up in English football) is that many chairmen/CEO's will go for a manager from overseas, rather than someone already in the English game. Maybe this could have a direct effect, or more likely, a knock-on effect further down the ladder?
There's quite a few black managers in the English game at the moment is nt there? Certainly more than I can ever remember
Hughton
Curle
Ramsey
Hasselbaink
Chris Powell
And it looks as though another black manager will soon be taking over at Notts county in Ricardo Moniz
And Fabio Liverani at Orient
I find it funny that people cite Barnes' two failed attempts at management as a reason he can't get a job.
It doesn't really work when plenty of white managers have gotten work repeatedly despite doing an appaling job everywhere they've been. Souness, AVB, Steve Clarke and Tony Mowbray are a few to come to mind.
And that's only premier league. I'm sure in the lower leagues, plenty of managers get sacked routinely and shuffle clubs every 18 months.
At the end of the day, Barnes has a point, moreso than Campbell did with the England captaincy claims, and to dismiss it as playing the race card is sticking your head in the sand.
