My wife worked with a wheelchair bound disabled person in a government role. She was absolutely useless, mistake after mistake. Constant attempts at retraining didn’t work and she was clearly just not capable of doing the job. The bosses were quite open with the fact that they were too scared to just sack her, for fear of accusations of discrimination.

Seems harsh to discriminate just because she was your wife

I’ve been trying to get rid of her for years

given on amazon clarkson made his farm show without one single solitary person of any minority anywhere and even pointed it out in one show I think having a bit of balance in springwatch is no harm at all.

It's not just the BBC that are at it. Companies have got quotas to fill and awards to be given. It's always been the case.

I think people can always be forgiven to hope that these things are based on merit, rather than just a box ticking exercise.

It's got to a stage now, particularly on TV and film, where you can pretty much guess who gets the award because of their background. TV, Film, comedy has all taken a dive. Some news readers seem to be like they're on work experience and quite clearly been given the job because their face fits. That's the world we live in now. Hopefully years down the line things will even themselves out and people can start getting creative again without the need to be bogged down in politics.

I think for most people of a certain age it feels like we're all on a hangover from the 90's.

Term.

I take it the beeb want to see more black people in place, to reflect society.

Black people make up about 4% of the UK population, so I assumed the beeb and media wete over represented, if anything.

Perhaps the EPL FA should recruit while aiming at white English players, as they are grossly under represented.

White players matter.haha.

The Bafta nominees were almost 50% black and Asian this year.

Same in music and sport generally.

Completely agree with it, it's a solution to a deeper problem.

It won't affect anyone on here either.

Can you be white skinned, but identify as a black person?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you can be a man and identify as a woman these days
i'm sure you could probably identify as a dog or a cat and get away with it

surprised it's legal, i'd have thought you are allowed apply quotas to interview candidates, but not to job offers themselves.

still, gives me some hope for my "no blacks, no irish" theme pub idea.

It’s like soap operas, when I was growing up Emmerdale farm was full of straight Yorkshire folk, now every other person in the village is a gay/lesbian murdering arsonist with anything but a Yorkshire accent

It’s gone too far
