----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, best person for the job is wrong?
Skin tone matters more or box ticking?
Do black people agree with this concept?
How is the BBC racist or not representative of the 4% black UK populace?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah it would be ideal if the best person for the job was always offered the job, but that might not always be the case. What happens if there are two candidates that are equally qualified for the role?
Studies have shown that applicants with names that sound foreign, or not traditionally white British, are less successful at receiving invites to interview than those with white British sounding names. This is despite the rest of the CV being completely identical.
Unconscious biases play a huge role in who gets offered jobs and steps should be taken to mitigate this. Hiding certain characteristics can be a solution at application stage but not really at interview.
If a company is keen to diversify and are concerned that their processes might not be working then things like this BBC situation can be a short term solution.

TBAB
Lets use your logic for a minute then.
The UK is 81% white or thereabouts.
Only 11% of BBC employees are non white.
Going by your logic, the BBC need to get that up to at least 19%.
I suggest that from now on the BBC should only give jobs to non whites until such a time when the percentage reflects the population.
Thanks for the idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Black percentage was 4% and Asian 5 % in UK so it was more like more like 9 per cent not white, so 11% non white at beeb would be about right.
If population is now 19% black, Asian, then yes, around 19% should be from that community.
That was my point....employed,can Only represent the population around them.
My figures must be outdated from an older census.

From the way some people talk you'd think we are besieged by initiatives for non white people, when the situation on the ground couldn't be any more different.
The mentality being created is like " enough of this" but the truth is far from that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Coming over here, taking our entry level media jobs.
I AM SICK OF IT
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With us or against us, yeah?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah man this makes no difference to me and so what if they're likely attempting to redress the balance after decades of institutional racism ... this is WRONG and it makes me ANGRY. PC gone MAD.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, redressing that balance is actually racist now.
We need to go back to the good times when the best person for the job always got the job.
Thats how its always been and now they're changing it with all these initiatives for non whites.

Because it’s such a stupid question.
To quote the writer of Luther directly:
“I have no knowledge or expertise or right to try to tackle in some way the experience of being a black man in modern Britain.
It would have been an act of tremendous arrogance for me to try and write a Black character. We would have ended up with an slightly embarrassed, ignorant, middle-class, white writers idea of a black character”.
And yet you’re asking people to do exactly that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Luther is a black character?
Not just a cop....or a character on tv.
Why is skin tone always centre stage now?
It's beyond boring.
Is Morse a white character?
That is where we are now, LMAO.
Nonsense and hopefully just a phase.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So why not just say “I haven’t watched the debate with Weyland or understood the point she was trying to make” rather than just create a complete alternate debate to get annoyed by? Using Morse as an analogy again proves her point.

Term was told he would not understand, but nobody educates or offers an answer, so what are we to make of people saying a character was not black enough, or lacked black cultural references etc.
Could it be cops and humans are just that, rather than defined by accident of birth skin pigmentation?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps you can find those answers for yourself instead of always asking other people to provide them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You said Term did not understand, so I asked you to explain.
You failed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't fail. I refused. Why should I work to post this info for you? I mean, who da fuq do you think you are? And stop acting like it would make a facking difference to you because it wouldn't and I know that from experience.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you patronize someone, at least have the manners to outline what they did not understand.
What is black culture, a black character or black cultural references?
You claim to know what Term and I cannot comprehend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't comprehend then educate yourself. Dont expect others to do it for you.Its alot of work only to be dismissed out of hand. No amount of irrefutable evidence could ever change your mind TBAB, I know that from experience. You'll just show up tomorrow as if your entire argument didnt get blown to smithereens.
Tell us about the percentages again perhaps...

Equality is fine and all.men and women are equal, in my eyes.
Making everything about skin pigmentation, accident of birth, is regressive and sad.
Many black and Asian people think this way and are human first, not a colour.
That does not excuse racism or mean i reject justice and equality....from.any quarter.
